FISHING VANUATU & SPEARFISHING
Fishing Vanuatu and spearfishing on Santo is world class thanks to huge drop offs and deepwater channels within throwing distance of inshore fringing reefs. Add to that a multitude of easily accesable seamounts, deep canyons and 30+ offshore islands and it all adds up to fishing heaven on your doorstep!
Every type of big game fish is on offer fishing Vanuatu and Santo is a great base to start from. There are black, blue and striped marlin (peak season Sept – March), wahoo (peak season April – Nov), sailfish June to Nov), Spanish mackerel, giant trevalley, dolphin fish, albacore and yellowfin tuna. In fact, for anglers and spearos looking to push the boundaries and explore new frontiers, Vanuatu’s infamous giant dogtooth tuna, GT’s and mahi mahi provide the ultimate fishing or spearfishing challenge.
There are a range of fishing boats to suit all budgets– from small local operators like Fabrice Moderan’s Island Fishing Santo right up to Calvin and Julie’s Santo Gamefishing Charters on Fiesta, a live-board 46ft flybridge Cresta cruiser. Spearo’s are also well catered for with incredible visibility, deepwater drop offs within swimming distance of the shoreline and 30 plus islands encircling Santo, all with incredible fringing reef, No matter what the weather, you can always find somewhere to spearfish or fish on Santo.
Alternatively you can simply throw in a line directly off the front doorstep at Turtle Bay thanks to our deep water beach access and an all tide fishing/kayak pier (see photo left of fish caught off our pier).
